As they say, “Necessity is the mother of invention”. Suffering from neck, shoulder and back pain, I set out to discover a way to make playing my guitar and bass more tolerable. I needed a guitar strap that would reduce the shoulder weight of my instruments in hopes that it would relieve the painful symptoms I was experiencing. I didn't want to give up playing but the resulting pain from hanging a 8+ pound guitar over my shoulder with a standard guitar strap was becoming unbearable.
After searching the internet and my local guitar shops for a weight reducing solution it became clear that in order to keep playing I was going to have to take matters in to my own hands. As I started shopping for parts to make prototypes I discovered a lot players were also experiencing similar aches and pains from playing their guitar or bass. As I explained the design I was working on, the majority of players I spoke with wanted a strap for themselves once the straps were completed.
Through trial and error I soon discovered three new ways to displace either a portion or the entire weight of my guitar to my waist. To confirm they were effective I also had a number of players try out the new designs to provide feedback on their performance as well. It turned out they worked! Players instantly experienced relief from removing some or all the weight from their shoulder. Practicing, rehearsing and gigging suddenly became much more bearable and in most cases, players were pain free the next day. Based on those results and the number of requests for straps, I decided to launch Slinger Straps.
As business grew I picked up photography as a hobby and sure enough, the way a standard camera strap hung around my neck also caused me pain (I've had 2 cervical spine surgeries). Using the same material we use on our elastic guitar strap, I created 2 new designs that feel amazing due to the wider footprint and tension relief the elastic offers.
Today all of our guitar and camera straps are available world wide via our website. Our goal is to help guitar and bass players play as long and comfortably as they desire. Even players with no pain should consider the benefits of these ergonomic guitar straps to help avoid future nerve and tendon compression issues. For players who just can't break away from traditional style guitar straps, I've also designed 2 and 3 inch standard straps that also deliver much needed pain relief. Photographers who carry heavy gear around for hours at a time can also benefit from the material we use and get the same relief we offer musicians.
Experience a whole new level of comfort and endurance with a Slinger Strap, and "Take the Pain Out of Playing." Our straps are proudly Made in the USA
